7 May

New temporary steps are being installed on the canal towpath to the south of Great Northern Close. The work is due to be completed by the end of the day (Friday 21 May), and the towpath should be open and accessible this weekend.
The new steps are long but are much less steep than those previously installed. Resting platforms have also been included.
For those who would prefer not to wheel or carry their bike up or down the steps, the signed diversion will remain in place via Arkwright Walk.
These steps will ensure the route remains open following The Canal and River Trust and Nottingham City Council agreeing to temporarily close the permanent ramp to enable developer Conygar to carry out works on the first phase of the Island Quarter, which will include improved access steps at Great Northern Close.
Works will continue until December 2021.
