We are pleased to announce a successful bid to the Office of Low Emission Vehicles, which will bring electric car charge points to more locations in the city.
£117,000 will be used to install charge points at four locations in local neighbourhoods. Queens Walk Community Centre in The Meadows, Winchester Street car park in Sherwood, Randall Street car park in Hyson Green and Denman Street car park in Radford.
These community hubs will offer charge points near to people’s homes, these will be particularly beneficial to those who have barriers to installing home charge points, such as those without off street parking.
These additional charge points will join Nottingham’s rapidly growing network of ultra low emission vehicle infrastructure as part of our publically accessible charge point network funded through the Go Ultra Low programme. Work to begin installation will begin shortly, and the hubs will be ready to use by March 2019.
Councillor Sally Longford, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Energy and Environment said: “We want to make charge points available to as many people as possible. Lack of off-street parking can be a barrier when it comes to owning an electric car, so this funding is an important step forward.
“Installing on-street charge points can be problematic, particularly on narrow pavements so our solution is to create community-charging hubs. Safe, off-street spaces that can be used by local residents who otherwise wouldn’t have access to charging near their homes.”
