Driving home for Christmas

NET staff festively dressed

This Christmas we want the city to be full of festive cheer, but let’s take a moment to thank those who are working to keep Nottingham moving while the rest of us are having fun. Across the city our dedicated drivers are connecting the dots, keeping the roads safe and bringing communities together.

Nottingham’s buses are officially the best in Britain, winning the award last month for a record-breaking fifth time! Nottingham’s buses transport 50 million passengers a year, and with arms full of Christmas shopping, exhausted from tackling the city centre masses, you can be safe in the knowledge of a smooth ride home.

Thank you to NET and all their tram drivers, who are busy connecting Hucknall to Clifton and everywhere in between. Our trams offer a speedy service that can beat the traffic to get you where you need to be; home with loved ones after that final week of work, or to Old Market Square for ice skating and mulled wine at Winter Wonderland.

Often forgotten, the refuse collectors who keep the city clean, our guys will be there bright and early to empty your bins whatever the weather.  We should all try to reduce our waste this Christmas as across the UK the equivalent of 4.2 million Christmas dinners, 6 million artificial trees and 227,000 miles of wrapping paper are thrown away. As we dispose of all our festive trimmings, let’s take a moment to appreciate those working hard to keep our streets clean.

When the weather outside is frightful, our gritting team is so delightful. They keep the roads safe on cold winter nights, working under the cover of darkness battling the elements to keep the roads clear and the city moving.

And finally, Nottingham’s cab drivers who give us a lift when we need it most. No matter the time of day (or night), wherever we need to go, they’re always on hand to get us home in time for Christmas.

So while you’re out enjoying the most wonderful time of the year, spare a thought to those working hard to keep the roads safe, clean and to get you where you need to be, to keep Nottingham moving this Christmas.
