Why this is happening

Nottingham City Council is due to resurface some roads within the City Centre as part of the final resurfacing phase of the Broadmarsh highway improvements and as part of the cross city centre cycle routes project which aims to connect existing and new cycle lanes and make cycling through the city easier, safer and a more enjoyable experience. Below are the details of this resurfacing programme that may have an impact on how you access and egress your property.

Wilford Street and Greyfriar Gate area lane closures. Three phases of work mid-week nights 9pm to 4am.

To be completed a day early – last night shift on 11/5/22

No diversions needed for Canal Street east (between Trent Street and London Road island)

Phase 1: 3rd & 4th May Complete
  • Bus Gate cameras to be suspended while traffic is diverted via Greyfriar Gate > Canal Street > BBC Island > London Road > Queen Road > Wilford Street
  • No Left Turn for buses from Carrington Street onto Canal Street. All buses to turn right towards Middle Hill.
Phase 2: 5th, 6th, 9th & 10th May Complete
  • No access in or out to Canal Street at Greyfriar Gate, access/egress maintained via Albion Street
  • No Left Turn for buses from Carrington Street onto Canal Street. All buses must turn right towards Middle Hill
  • No buses from Maid Marion Way onto Canal Street, alternative route to be arranged
Phase 3: 11th, 12th May Completed early
  • No access to Castle Boulevard from Canal Street heading westbound to QMC
  • No left turn from Wilford St to Castle Boulevard
  • No bus stops in use on Castle Boulevard between Wilford Street and Castle Meadow Road
  • Diversion via Maid Marian Way > Under NCP bridge > Greyfriar Gate > Wilford Street > Queens Road > Castle Meadow Road

Canal Street outbound lane closure between Middle Hill and London Road. Weekend daytimes 8am to 5pm

7th, 8th, 14th & 15th May
  • No eastbound vehicular movement towards London Road/BBC Island from Middle Hill
  • Traffic diverted via Middle Hill > Warser Gate > Bellar Gate
  • No left turn from Weekday Cross, No right turn from Low Pavement, No left turn from Pilcher Gate onto Middle Hill
  • Side roads on the Nottingham One side of Canal Street are to turn Left when exiting and side roads on the College side of Canal Street are to turn Right when exiting
  • Bus Stops along Canal Street will not be served during these hours & on these days
  • Traffic maintained heading westbound towards Middle Hill
