What's happening?

Works will begin on Radford Road on Monday 17 May to upgrade the traffic signals on Radford Road between North Gate and Gregory Boulevard junctions. The upgraded traffic signals will be more responsive and can react to changing levels of traffic – which will ease congestion along Radford Road and help public transport run more efficiently.

This project is part of Nottingham and Derby’s Transforming Cities programme. Working in partnership, Nottingham City and Derby City Councils secured £161 million from the Department for Transport to invest in local transport infrastructure that will improve sustainable transport, support growth, and encourage more low carbon journeys. Work schedule

Works will start on 17 May and will be split into the following distinct phases:

Phase 1a:        Radford Road / Bobbers Mill Road crossing – works start 17 May for 3 days

Radford Road / Berridge Road junction – works start 24 May for 4 days

Phase 1b:        Radford Road / Terrace Street crossing – start 31 May for 3 weeks

Phase 2:          Radford Road / North Gate junction – start 21 June for 3 weeks

Phase 3:          Radford Road / Wilkinson Street junction – start 12 July for 6 weeks

How will this affect traffic?

  • Phase 1a: works will take place primarily overnight when trams stop running. No impact on traffic. Equipment built up off-site to reduce noise to residents.
  • Phase 1b: Radford Road southbound will be closed at the Terrace Street junction. A signed diversion route for southbound traffic will be in place via North Gate and Nottingham Road. Access will be maintained to properties on Radford Road at all times. Works will take place during the day
  • Phase 2: Temporary traffic signals will be in operation at the junction of Radford Road / North Gate with works taking place during the day.
  • Phase 3: Works to take place primarily during the day with some overnight works. Lane closures will be in operation during the works.
