Welcome to your latest update on our project to build a new walking and cycling bridge over the Trent at Trent Basin. Here’s the latest:
- On the North bank, at Poulton Drive, piling (the creation of deep foundations for the bridge) has begun and is due to be complete by mid-July. An area has now been prepared where the bridge will be re-assembled on site when it arrives in August.
- Next on the North bank, works will start on the reinforced concrete areas of site – piles caps and bridge abutments. The temporary works supporting the bridge structure during its assembly on site will be installed and the bridge will start to arrive in pieces on site.
- On the South bank, a haul road and crane platform has been created from the Holme Road Skatepark to the side of the river Trent via the Nottingham Sports Ground.
- Next on the South bank, sheet piling will be installed along the bank to protect the workers from falling in the water and piles will be installed
The construction team have also been getting involved with the local community – working with several local schools. Amara Campbell was the winner of a bridge design competition with the Heymann School – thank you Amara for your beautiful wavy garden bridge design (below).
Finally, a crew comprised of team members from Balfour Beatty, Britons Fabricators and Nottingham City Council took part in the charity dragon boat racing on the Trent on Sunday 6 July, in a bid to raise money for Nottingham University Hospitals Charity. They raised over £1000.
