Poulton Drive and Daleside Road will benefit from new cycling and walking infrastructure that will help safely link up those on bike and on foot with the new footbridge over the Trent.
The project includes a 3-metre shared use path along the southern side of the pavement on Daleside Road, including a new planting area providing separation between the new path and the road.
A new wider refuge is included at the junction of Daleside Road and Poulton Drive to help improve safety and visibility at the crossing. Additionally, the pedestrian crossing at the roundabout junction is to be upgraded to a toucan crossing to enable cyclists to use it as well as pedestrians.
This will connect with the existing cycle path on the northern side of the road, providing a direct route into the city centre. This then helps connect areas in the City such as Colwick Park, Sneinton and the East Point Retail Park with Rushcliffe areas including the Hook, Lady Bay and Holme Pierrepont. It will also provide connections with key areas such as Nottingham Station and the City Centre.
The scheme also includes widening the eastern footway on Poulton Drive to provide a 3-metre shared use facility and a connection through the Blueprint development site to provide a direct temporary connection to the new bridge until Blueprint build out the housing, roads and new paths on their site.
The new Waterside Bridge itself will allow for new connections between Rushcliffe and the City with the connecting paths providing a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists. This will help encourage active and sustainable travel whilst improving public transport integration and easing congestion in the surrounding area.
