Clean Air Day – 19 June – Do your bit for healthier air

June 19, 2025

Today, June 19 is clean air day! Breathing in polluted air emitted from cars and other sources seriously damages health – contributing to cancers, dementia, heart disease, strokes and more.

Did you know that:

  • Air pollution is responsible for one in four deaths from heart disease and stroke worldwide
  • Poor quality air impacts the vulnerable, such as children and the elderly, more profoundly  – it can even damage the health of an unborn child

Here are some ways you can help make a difference to our air, today, and every day.

Walk, cycle or scoot to school and cut harmful pollution at school drop-off

Take advantage of Nottingham’s amazing public transport, including Nottingham City Transport‘s electric or biogas buses or NET Nottingham Tram electric trams rather than driving – or why not have a try at the lime e-bikes or Dott e-scooters?

If you need to drive, ALWAYS turn off your engine when waiting, especially if you have children in the car. People inside a car breathe in MORE harmful air pollution than walkers or cyclists, so always switch off when possible, especially when there are children in the car

Are you a local business, charity or organisation in Nottingham? Did you know we have grants available that can help you green your business travel – including help to install EV chargers as well as pool e-bikes for your business, showers and changing facilities and secure bike shelters
