On Wednesday 28th May, Notts Healthcare NHS Trust in collaboration with British Cycling and Nottingham City Council, held an Active Travel session at Duncan Macmillan House which was designed to provide staff the opportunity to have a go at cycling and scooting. The session was drop-in and approximately 15 staff members attended. Lime e-bikes and Dott e-scooters provided some of their vehicles as well as British Cycling bringing along some bikes. Staff really enjoyed learning how to get set up on the vehicles and whizzing around site! The session also provided the opportunity for staff to have a go on the Trust’s new e-bikes which have been funded through Nottingham City Council’s Workplace Travel Service.
All staff said the session really helped them build their confidence with using the Lime e-bikes and Dott e-scooters, as they had always wanted to try but never had the confidence. Some staff members had never learnt to ride a bike before and therefore, British Cycling were able to support staff in having a go for the first time as well as sharing resources on their upcoming sessions.
Suzanne Bradford, Library Assistant said “Thanks to British Cycling for encouraging me to continue to cycle to work, and to become more ambitious with using a Trust e-bike in the future to commute between different NHS sites around Nottingham. I feel much more confident now I have received some training and guidance.”
