New and improved bus lanes on Wollaton Road

Nottingham City Council have published proposals for improvements to bus lanes on the A609 Wollaton Road between Crown Island and St Peter’s Street.

Works include:

  • New 24-hour bus lane inbound
  • Existing outbound bus lane switched to 24 hour

The new and upgraded bus lanes will help with bus times and reliability on the trentbarton two and the NCT pink 28, 30. Traffic modelling has shown that the bus lanes will not have a negative impact on the rest of the traffic flows, but that bus lanes will help to improve journey times for bus passengers.

Funding for this comes from the Government’s Bus Service Improvement Plan – a pot of money designed to help upgrade public transport provision in the city. In addition while working in this area Nottingham City Council will also be undertaking some flood prevention works.

Councillor Angela Kandola, Nottingham City Council’s portfolio holder for transport said, “Just this week a survey showed that Nottingham passengers were the most satisfied with bus wait times in the country, in part this is due to our 26km of bus lanes around the city – helping keep buses on time during busy periods. Buses are one of the most efficient ways of moving people around the city, and these works in Wollaton will help to get more people into and out of the city at peak times.”
