Overnight closures to London Road Island and Lower Parliament Street

March 26, 2024

Nottingham City Council has been working to build the cross city cycle route – connecting the Western Cycle Corridor (along Castle Boulevard) and the Eastern Cycle Corridor (along Daleside Road) with a high quality segregated cycle path. The central section – along London Road and Fisher Gate is nearly complete. The final stage of this project will see road resurfacing works on London Road Roundabout, Lower Parliament Street, Hollow Stone and Fisher Gate.

These works are funded by a government grant as part of the Transforming Cities Fund – a pot of money aimed at promoting sustainable transport methods and connecting people with employment opportunities.

Works start on the night of Sunday 7 April 2024 and will take place overnight Monday to Friday 10pm to 6am for four weeks. Road closures will be in place with signed diversions.

Given the location of the works – Nottingham City Council has been working closely with the Motorpoint Arena to ensure that road closures will not have significant impacts on people leaving the arena. On nights when there are events finishing later in the evening, road closures will start at 11pm so as to ensure concert goers have left the area.

Councillor Angela Kandola, Nottingham City Council’s portfolio holder for transport said, “The cross city cycle route is nearing completion and it’s an exciting time for this project. We are working hard to minimise disruption as we move into the final phase. Our crews have worked hard to schedule multiple projects in the area at the same time to work more efficiently and minimise disruption and will be working overnight as they resurface this busy junction. There will be significant diversions in place so if you are travelling in the area between 10pm and 6am allow extra time for your journey.”
