Nottingham City Council has secured funding from the Department for Transport to support the Greater Nottingham Bus Service Improvement Plan which aims to improve the reliability and punctuality of local bus services, encouraging increased use of buses, which are key to providing access to jobs and opportunities, supporting local businesses and new housing developments, and reducing congestion on the road network.
Meadows Way is a very busy bus route and buses are experiencing delays heading towards the city centre.
To improve the flow of buses and to generally improve the area for all road users, the following work will take place:
- New bus lanes
- Relocation of bus stops
- Removal of existing zebra crossing and installation of a new push‑button pedestrian crossing
- Extension of off-street parking areas to provide more parking off the main road
- Removal of parking on Meadows Way and provision of a new right-turn pocket into Mabel Street
- Improvements to footways
- Improvements to cycle facilities
Latest updates:
March 2026:
To allow us to safely construct these improvements, temporary parking restrictions will be required. These restrictions are essential to ensure safe working areas for our construction teams and to maintain the efficient flow of traffic during the works.
- In the first phase – no parking will be permitted within the residents’ car park on Uppingham Gardens from Wednesday 25 March 2026 to 15 April 2026.
- During the second phase – no parking will be permitted within the residents’ car park on Lammas Gardens from 16 April 2026 to 11 May 2026.
