Local businesses are encouraged to apply for one of the grants available for the new financial year
Another local business has benefited from a grant from Nottingham City Council’s Workplace Travel Service.
Stewarts of Trent Bridge are a local coffee roaster based in Sneinton who sell coffee, run workshops and run three Blend cafes. Now, they’re making their local delivery and collection services greener and cleaner thanks to our Workplace Travel Service.
After successfully applying for and receiving a grant totalling almost £5,000, Stewarts were able to invest in two e-bikes, including a cargo e-bike to use for local deliveries, as well as two EV charging points.
The cargo bike has quickly replaced a diesel van as the vehicle of choice for local city deliveries, as well as moving coffee and cakes between cafes, while the EV charging points have enabled Stewarts to begin transitioning away from petrol and diesel powered vehicles, introducing two electric vehicles with plans to add more.
Stewarts next sustainability goals are to replace their main delivery vehicle with an electric alternative this year and prioritize working with courier companies that are transitioning to greener transport options. They applied for a grant via Nottingham City Council’s Workplace Travel Service, which awarded grants to 15 local businesses and organisations totalling £210,000 2024/2025 financial year and now have funding to continue this project into 2025/2026.
Local businesses, public/voluntary sector organisations and faith groups are encouraged to apply, with up to £25,000 up for grabs per application to help improve workplace travel options by introducing eCargo bikes, cycle shelters, showers for cyclists and electric vehicle charging points. If the application is successful businesses get 75% of the net costs. Public, voluntary sector, and charity groups can apply for 100% funded grants.

Stewarts paid 25% of the cost, plus VAT, with the remaining 75% coming from the Government’s Local Transport Plan and Nottingham’s Workplace Parking Levy, which means businesses and organisations in Nottingham are supported with sustainable workplace travel improvements at no cost to the Council.
Nottingham City Council Leader and Executive Member for Strategic Regeneration, Transport and Communications, Councillor Neghat Khan said: “It’s fantastic that our dedicated Workplace Travel Service team is able to offer these grants again for the 25/26 financial year thanks to funding from the Local Transport Plan and support from the Workplace Parking Levy.”
“There are many benefits to active and sustainable travel in the workplace, such as reduced travel costs a healthier, more productive workforce, lower carbon emissions and local pollution, a greener reputation, less congestion and fewer car parking issues.”
Stewarts said “Switching to a cargo e-bike to get coffee, cake and other supplies across Nottingham is a no-brainer! Bike deliveries are faster, easier to park, and more convenient, particularly in busy city areas.
The application process was also straightforward with plenty of guidance – we encourage other local businesses and groups to apply.”
