Improved paths and roads across Nottingham thanks to Streets for People programme

September 25, 2025

Over 100 schemes, including resurfacing more than 15km of roads and paths, have been completed as part of phase two of the Streets for People programme. With additional funding secured, the programme can now continue to improve roads and make walking and cycling easier and safer.

The roads chosen for improvement have been put forward by local people and prioritised by ward councillors. To ensure the funds go as far as possible, the programme is made up of both standard road resurfacing and preventative maintenance. This approach will allow the team to cover a larger area and improve more roads within all wards in the city. The money will be used to improve the worst-affected roads and pavements. The funds have been fully utilised to deliver all schemes on the third phase of the programme before the end of August 2026. Some of the roads that will be improved include St Jude’s Avenue, Linnell Street and Wemyss Gardens.

The programme also includes road safety and traffic management upgrades, along with tree replacement safety initiatives and bin replacements.

Nottingham City Council has recently launched a highways map on the Transport Nottingham website, which clearly displays all the schemes. The map allows viewers to zoom in on a particular area and use filters to see the status of the work (complete, live, programmed) as well as the type of work taking place. In addition, viewers can find some before and after photos highlighting the improvements.

Councillor Linda Woodings, Executive Member for Regional Development, Growth and Transport at Nottingham City Council, said: “We’re proud to be delivering real improvements to roads and pavements across every part of the city. We can now build on the success of the work we’ve done so far after listening to our residents and working closely with councillors to prioritise the areas that will benefit the most from better paths and roads.”
