Take a look at some of our 2025 transport highlights.

January

  • One year of Travel Well

The Travel Well programme has already referred over 160 patients and connected over 1330 participants to a variety of free activities, from bike maintenance workshops to led walks and cycle training.

February

  • UK-first sculpture is unveiled at Nottingham’s Green Heart

The piece entitled Standing In This Place is the work of sculptor Rachel Carter and community history group the Legacy Makers. The Green Heart is Nottingham’s brand-new green space, in the heart of the city close to the Central Library, Broad Marsh cycle store, our cross city cycle routes and the train station.

March

  • E-scooters returned to Nottingham

Around 1300 Dott e-scooters are available to hire from approximately 300 mandatory parking locations across the city.

  • Nottingham leads the way in city bus services

The results revealed that Nottingham buses received a very high satisfaction rating – 90% versus an average of 83% nationally.

April

  • We welcomed a £16.4m transport funding boost

More than £16m of external funding will be invested into Nottingham city’s transport network in 2025/26 thanks to the new East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

May

  • More episodes of the Travel Well podcast were released

June

  • Free bikes for Nottingham jobseekers

In partnership with the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, we helped jobseekers in Nottingham by providing travel assistance and free refurbished bikes.

  • School children learn to ride

In partnership with British Cycling, we delivered ‘Learn to ride’ sessions with 96 children aged 8-11 from Stanstead Flying High Academy in Top Valley. The school has a high proportion of children who do not own or have access to bicycles.

July

  • Renewing Local Streets programme is completed

In 2021, Nottingham City Council bid for and won £18million as part of a competitive process from Central Government to deliver the ‘Renewing Local Streets’ transport programme.

  • Traffic lights were upgraded to LEDs across Nottingham

Thanks to £631,000 from the Government’s Department for Transport, we started to upgrade Nottingham’s traffic signals to energy-efficient LED lights instead of halogen lamps.

August

  • We installed a new Pedestrian Crossing on Queens Road

September

  • New era for Maid Marian Way

Safer crossings, greener spaces and better connections were made on Maid Marian Way.

  • Award success for Broad Marsh redevelopment project

The redevelopment of Nottingham’s Broad Marsh won an award acknowledging its ambition for the city.

  • We improved paths and roads across Nottingham

Over 100 schemes, including resurfacing more than 15km of roads and paths, were completed as part of phase two of the Streets for People programme.

October

  • Work started on the redevelopment of Bulwell

New images were released showing exactly how a £20m grant will be spent on improvements to Bulwell town centre.

  • New community bike library launches

A new community bike library opened at Harvey Hadden Sports Village as part of the Travel Well project.

November

  • Mobility hubs opened around the city

School children helped to officially launch the mobility hubs which link different modes of transport in Nottingham and makes it easier for people to get around the city.

  • New walking and cycling bridge successfully lifted into place

The 87metre, 175tonne bridge was lifted into place by a huge crawler crane.

December

  • Nottingham named as one of the top local authorities for walking and cycling infrastructure

Active Travel England published its active travel capability ratings for local authorities. Nottingham is one of eleven local authorities to achieve a 3 rating, putting it among the top councils.

  • Porchester Road walking and cycling improvements completed ahead of schedule

This is an important addition to the council’s strategic cycling network, linking to the improvements on Carlton Road and following the completion of last year’s Active Travel Fund project on St Ann’s Well Road.

  • The Ride app launched

A first-of-its-kind mobile app launched across Nottingham and Derby – bringing together a host of integrated transport information and ticketing options in one handy place.

There are some exciting projects on the horizon for 2026 so watch this space.
