Following a reappraisal of this scheme, which originally included removal of the Moor Bridge traffic island and traffic light signalisation at the junction, we have gathered comments on new proposals for an inbound bus lane on the A611 / Hucknall Lane, alongside improvements for pedestrians, accessibility improvements at local bus stops and full carriageway resurfacing for all road users.
We recently consulted on a proposed scheme layout and following a review of the comments received, have refined the scheme further. Numerous comments were received regarding the impacts of the two push button pedestrian crossings on traffic flow. We subsequently reviewed the layout and have amended the pedestrian crossings. The two crossings will remain in the same positions, however they are now proposed to be ‘staggered’. This means that pedestrians will cross the road in two movements, one to the central refuge, and then from the central refuge to the other side of the road. This benefits traffic flow as the amount of time that a red light is shown to traffic is reduced. The other change is that the build out on the crossing near Aston Drive heading towards the roundabout is removed, allowing buses a freer flow. In summary, the changes should improve general traffic flow and improve bus flow with a minor disbenefit to pedestrians.
We are now working on the detailed design with a view to programming the works to start in early 2026. A formal Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) Consultation exercise is now taking place. You can see the copy of the TRO letter here and the plan that was sent with it here.
The scheme, which is funded by the Department for Transport, will support the Greater Nottingham Bus Service Improvement Plan which aims to improve the reliability and punctuality of local bus services, encouraging increased use of buses, which are key to providing access to jobs and opportunities, supporting local businesses and new housing developments, and reducing congestion on the road network.

About the Greater Nottingham Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP)
Nottingham City Council have received government funding to deliver projects between 2023 and 2025.
While the Section 114 Report means that money Nottingham City Council can spend is currently strictly controlled, because external grant funding has previously been specifically allocated and approved for these schemes, it can continue to go ahead.
The Greater Nottingham Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) will deliver projects and programmes that improve the area’s bus services – including reducing fares for young people, delivering buses that are more frequent and reliable, and improving passenger waiting facilities.
