The Boulevards Improvements: Gregory Boulevard

Coming soon

More than £1.3m will be invested in delivering walking and cycling improvements in Nottingham, thanks to the new East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

Improvements will be delivered along Gregory Boulevard between the A60 Mansfield Road and Noel Street. This will include:

  • adding 850metre of segregated cycle path
  • resurfacing the road and footpaths
  • upgrading crossings and adding an additional pedestrian crossing
  • sustainable urban drainage planting which will help surface water to drain away while helping wildlife

The scheme will enhance the safety and accessibility of cycle routes and footpaths, encouraging more people to walk, wheel, and cycle locally and using this corridor to cross the city.

As part of the project, resurfacing work will also be carried out on the road, reducing the need for future disruption by combining improvements into the construction. Upgraded crossings will make it easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists to navigate the area, while footpaths will be improved to provide a more comfortable and accessible experience.

The scheme will also fill a gap in our wider cycle network, providing a flat safe route and opening up better opportunities for walking and cycling along to the Boulevards, the city centre and Sherwood, connecting with existing facilities such as:

  • Education: Djanogly City Academy and better connections to Bluecoat Trent Academy, Nottingham High School and Nottingham Trent University
  • Parks and open spaces: Forest Recreation Ground and Arboretum
  • Leisure facilities: The Forest Sport Zone and Djanogly Community Leisure Centre
  • Transport: The Forest Park & Ride

The scheme complements plans to improve facilities at The Forest Sport Zone, which opened in 2015. The £2.6m project to transform pitches and buildings at the venue was granted approval in June 2025. The proposed improvements along Gregory Boulevard will facilitate pedestrian and cycle access to the facility.

Complementary road safety improvements for Lenton Boulevard and Lenton Boulevard / Derby road junctions are planned for 2027.

Have your say

As part of this scheme, the proposal is that parking will largely be relocated to the northern side of the street with changes to how these spaces are used.

We’d welcome comments on these proposals ahead of finalising the scheme design. Share your feedback by Friday 23 May by emailing us at [email protected] or by filling in our online survey.

Traffic Regulation Order

These improvements will result in a slightly narrower carriageway than at present. To ensure the carriageway remains clear, prevent parking on the new cycle track, and maintain the safety of all highway users, a new Traffic Regulation Order is required to support the revised layout.

To achieve this, the proposed TRO would:

  • Install limited waiting bays along Gregory Boulevard to support short-stay parking needs operating Mon-Sat, 8am-6pm 2 hours, no return for 2 hours.
  • Introduce double yellow line restrictions along Gregory Boulevard to improve sightlines and reduce obstruction risks.
  • Introduce double yellow line with loading restrictions at peak time along Gregory Boulevard in order to maintain traffic flows.
  • Introduce a bus stand clearway on the footway at the western entrance to Djanogly School to support the school with specific boarding and alighting activities whilst maintaining traffic flows.

These measures aim to improve safety and accessibility for all road users while supporting the wider objectives of the active travel scheme.

In order to give feedback to our Traffic Management team on the above proposed changes, please email [email protected] before 2nd June 2026.

When will work begin?

We are planning for works to begin later in 2026. We will work to plan these works to make sure they don’t impact on local events like Goose Fair.
