An Electric Vehicle Roadshow will be touring Nottingham businesses during June and July, with the first event taking place on Clean Air Day, Thursday 20 June, at the NG2 Business Park.
The roadshow events have increased relevance following the Prime Minister’s announcement on 12 June that the UK will set a Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions target into law, eradicating the country’s net contribution to climate change by 2050.
According to Clean Air Day, it’s estimated that up to 36,000 deaths each year in the UK are caused by air pollution. Almost 2,000 locations in the UK are above World Health Organisation (WHO) maximum limits for air pollution, and there are places in the UK where the air pollution is three times higher than the WHO limits.
Air pollution is a term for different types of pollution in the air around us. Petrol and diesel vehicles emit nitrogen oxides (NOx), so levels are especially high around roads.
The good news is that there’s now an increasing range of battery electric cars and vans with zero tailpipe emissions that businesses can adopt. A selection of the latest electric vehicles (EVs) will be on display as part of the Electric Vehicle Roadshow which will be touring Nottingham businesses. The Roadshow events will also include the opportunity to ask questions about making the transition to EVs.
Nottingham’s ULEV Experience project will be holding roadshows at the following locations:

A range of the latest electric vehicles will be on show, with test drives available at the first three locations, and one-to-one ‘Ask the Expert’ sessions to give businesses the opportunity to find out more about the benefits of making the shift to electric vehicles – including cars, vans and larger commercial vehicles.

Electric vehicles are part of the solution to this public health crisis and will help us clean up our toxic air. Our Clean Van Commitment initiative, which came out of the Clean Air Day campaign, has shown genuine demand for EVs from businesses, and the sooner we ditch diesel for zero emissions vehicles, the better.”

The ULEV Experience is funded by Nottingham City Council’s Workplace Travel Service and is a programme dedicated to supporting businesses to understand, trial and implement Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs).
Many local companies are already making the switch to ULEVs and are beginning to enjoy the financial benefits. To date the ULEV Experience programme has identified that 452 ULEVs could potentially be adopted within Nottingham businesses, saving a combined total of £171,344 per year in running costs and 896 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Further business support is also available in the form of a Workplace Travel Service grant of up to £25,000 to support sustainable transport initiatives including workplace charging infrastructure.
