Liquidation of Superpedestrian, Nottingham’s E-scooter Operator

As reported in the local press Nottingham’s e-scooter operator Superpedestrian has gone into liquidation. We are disappointed to hear this news which suddenly put a halt to the e-scooter service in December. The e-scooter scheme was recognised as one of the most highly used services in the country with an average of 3,000 journeys carried out every day accessed by around 20,000 users per month.

Whilst the trial has not been without its issues, e-scooters provided a clean, green and affordable way to travel for many residents. The trial itself has generated a lot of learning for how to manage the mode across all aspects such as operations, technology, education and enforcement. Our learning has been fed into national evaluations being carried out by the Government to inform future legislation.

The Council would like to extend our thanks and best wishes to the local operations team and staff at Superpedestrian who have worked in collaboration with ourselves and our partners over the past years to address issues and continuously improve the service.

A claims process has been established for customers who have a credit balance on their Superpedestrian App.

“Effective 29th December 2023, Superpedestrian has ceased e-scooter operations. Superpedestrian is deleting all personal data for customer accounts under the UK’s General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) within 30 days, except as required to be retained for valid tax and financial purposes. More information can be found here:  www.proofofclaims.com/Superpedestrian/documents. Direct inquiries can be sent here: superpedestrianabc@proofofclaims.com.  Please be patient as we handle many incoming inquiries.”

As reported in the local press, the Department for Transport have provided an extension to e-scooter rental trials to May 2026. A procurement process has commenced to appoint a new rental e-scooter operator. We therefore expect hire e-scooters to return to Nottingham in the summer 2024.

In preparation of the new e-scooter service and to support our ongoing e-bike hire scheme operated by Lime, we are continuing with our programme to rollout a number of parking corrals across the city to provide for more visible and orderly parking of both ebikes and e-scooters.
