Travel Well story

As part of our Travel Well programme, we caught up with Councillor Dinnall to see how she keeps active.

Tell us a bit about yourself and how you keep active.

I’m Audrey Dinnall, the Councillor for Leen Valley Ward. I keep myself active by trying to walk more and ride my bike.

How has being more active benefitted you?

It has benefited me because I get out of the house more. As I have diabetes I try to exercise in ways that I’m comfortable with to help me keep healthy.

What’s your favourite thing about walking/cycling?

My favourite thing about riding my bike is the freedom it gives me. I’m also meeting other bikers and joining group rides which is brilliant and, it’s all free! I can also get around more in my ward, pick up issues and speak to my constituents enabling me to be more visible. It lets me cover a wide area and feel engaged with the community in a way only cycling allows.

How will the Travel Well activities help people in your area?

It will help people get out more and to manage physical well-being and social isolation.

Is there any advice you’d give to people who want to be more active?

Just have a go, you will be surprised how good it makes you feel.
